Biography
Mr Shipolini qualified from St Bartholmew’s Hospital in 1985 and trained in cardiothoracic surgery at St Thomas’, Guys and Kings College Hospitals, London. In 2000, he was appointed as consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. Mr Shipolini has developed expertise in high risk contrary artery and aortic valve surgery. Mr Shipolini has proudly developed a specific cardiac surgical database programme used to improve postoperative surgical results and reduce postoperative complications. This has culminated in achieving consistency excellent surgical outcomes as measures by Care Quality Commission (CQC) and published by the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (SCTS). In addition, Mr Shipolini’s long term interests lay in training and education, organising and running national and international courses at the Royal College of Surgeons. Particular research interests include neurocognitive protection and outcomes after cardiac surgery as well as the effects of sleep apnoea on cardiac disease.
