PERSONAL PROFILE
Mr Balacumaraswami trained at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and completed clinical and basic science research at University of Oxford to obtain Postgraduate Doctorate (M.D.) in Medicine. He trained in heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support in Cambridge. He undertook an Advanced Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery fellowship for a year at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, USA. He is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Royal Stoke University Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent, appointed in 2009, where he has successfully developed Advanced Aortic surgery, Mitral and Tricuspid valve reconstructive surgery, beating heart coronary surgery and minimally invasive heart surgery services. He collaborates with the University hospital of North Midlands Research support unit as Principal Investigator in UK National research trials and works with the Cardiovascular research network in conjunction with Keele University to deliver clinical research. He is the Cardiothoracic Clinical Governance and Audit lead for the Hospital Trust.
